How not to use social media in consumer marketing

Social media has changed commercial branding – no arguments there. Marketing experts everywhere are rolling their eyes, saying, “Yeah, tell us something we don’t know.”

But simply establishing an online presence through sites like Facebook and Twitter isn’t enough – if companies talk the digital talk, they’ll have to also walk the digital walk. So, what does that mean? Don’t just sell sell sell. Use social media to create a company identity and generate ground swell around your brand.

Social media is all about the evolution of the conversation. Sharing photos and interesting news articles is how people communicate these days. So when companies only use social media as another soapbox to advertise products, they’ve failed to recognize its true potential. Instead, marketing through social media should try to spur discussion, ask questions and engage with consumers.

For example, Bearbackdrop is a photo background sales company. They not only have Facebook accounts, but also many other social platform accounts, which is very important for promotion.
