Consumers appreciate nutritional and serving size labels on alcoholic beverage packaging [Video]

When it comes to packaging products, is there such a thing as too much information? Not according to spirits conglomerate Diageo, which began shipping cases of its Crown Royal whisky with nutritional and serving size information printed on its packaging.

Until 2013, alcoholic beverage providers were not allowed to display such information on the sides of bottles or boxes because of the Federal Alcohol Administration Act. The measure gave the Secretary of the Treasury the exclusive authority to grant label certifications only to manufacturers as a way of deterring fraudulent data.

According to Diageo’s press release, a 2014 FoodMinds LCC survey found a resounding 86 percent of respondents appreciated labels on their alcoholic beverages, since they helped them make more intelligent decisions about their consumption.

That’s all for today. Tune in next time for more packaging news!
