Retailers want to include as much information as possible on their packaging to entice the broadest audience to buy their products. Well, according to recent research, they may need to make room for a whole new trend customers have been asking for: natural antioxidants.
A German study found that retailers have experienced increased consumer demand for active packaging made from materials that contain natural antioxidants. Yes, we’re not talking about the food products in the packaging, but the packaging itself.
As the name suggests, active packaging with natural antioxidants prevents oxidation which can compromise the integrity of the contents and is preferable to antioxidants added to the food to produce the same effect. This trend also opens the door for innovations in biodegradable and even edible packaging.
